Network Password FAQ

-Purpose-
The purpose of this document is to provide information on the Active Directory (network/email) passwords and how to reset them.

-Password Guidelines-
The following will give information about password criteria and expiration
  • Passwords expire every 90 days.
    • If you login to a computer on campus, about 1 week before the expiration, you will be notified that you password will expire in X days. This notification will be when you login to a computer and show up in the notification area near the clock on the computer.
    • If you login remotely, or mainly use email, you will not receive notifications that your password is going to expire. We recommend that you set a reminder in Outlook for 85 days that your password will expire. This will allow you to preemptively change your password and avoid getting locked out. 
  • Passwords must be at least 8 characters
  • Passwords must contain at least 3 of the 4 following criteria.
    • At least 1 uppercase
    • At least 1 lower case
    • At least 1 number
    • At least 1 special character
-How to Change your Network Password-

-On campus-
  1. After you have logged in to a campus computer, press <ctrl>+<alt>+<del>
  2. There will be a new screen pop up with multiple options. Toward the bottom of the list will be an option to change your password. 
  3. When you click on change password, it will prompt you for the old password and ask you to type the new password twice. Type in the passwords and then click the arrow next to the last line. 
  4. Your password is now changed! 
-Off Campus-
  1. Login to Outlook for Web ( http://iecc.edu  then click the email link on the top right of the screen)image
  2. Login to OWA with your network credentials
  3. On top, right hand side of screen, click Options and select Change Your Password.

  4. You will then be prompted for your old password and a new password that must be typed twice.
  5. Click save - your password is now changed.

-Change your password on your other devices!!!!-
Now that your password has been changed, you will need to ensure that it is changed on your other devices. If you do not, you may start to get locked out and will not know why.

  • What do i need to change? 
    • Do you get your email on your phone, iPad or other mobile device? Your password will need to be changed in these email applications
    • Do you connect your mobile device to the Faculty/Staff network? Your password will need to be changed in the wireless settings.
